The Westminster Bubble

I voted to RemaIn in the EU. Mostly because I do not trust this domestic democracy. When the Tony Blair Conservative government ushered in the new millennium to strains of "It Can Only Get Better"I knew we were all pretty screwed as the one thing you know about politicians is that they mostly tell you the opposite of the truth. The more I heard that bloody song the more I was sure it could only get worse.

As our flawed democracy stripped more and more real choice from our hands the more I retreated from the voting charade - I did not want their blood on my hands. I did not want to validate their outrageous claims of "MANDATE" as they dragged the country again, and again, in to war.

But then this referendum came about, and although the EU is obviously flawed, I could not countenance anything that put yet more power into the hands of The Odious Tories. So I joined in and I voted to RemaIn.

It was a typical campaign of lies, and we lost.

But here in the aftermath I am heartened. All around me I see people galvanised by real issues, real concerns. I hear meaningful politics discussed on the streets and in the workplace. Where before there was only the irritating crackle of party faithful selling lies and deceit NOW I hear normal folk impassioned. Where before our choice was to align ourselves with one pack of blockheads or another, now we are demanding the blockhead Politicians align themselves with US. As it should be.

The story of Jeremy Corbyn's leadership of the Labour Party right now demonstrates how insular the MP system has become. How we have lived with an MP elite serving themselves and each other in opposition to the populace. At last we have a chance prick the westminster bubble. Let that be the positive outcome of the referndum...

The Westminster Bubble

The Westminster bubble is ready for lancing
People are talking with some already chanting
We've shouldered your shit, your austerity cuts
For we have a pride we can withstand times that are tough

The Westminster bubble is ready for popping
Like proverbial flies your lies they are dropping
For decades we've watched you all asset stripping
Bemused by your greed not fooled by your tongue tripping

The Westminster bubble is ready for slicing
Think tanks are sinking now the people are rising
Masquerades and charades may have defined who you are
But we were not fooled we were just working too hard

You've leant on our pride, our strength and our guts
We've allowed you to steal for envy ain't us
But now we are chanting "enough is enough"
And it's the Westminster bubble's time to be crushed
Don't underestimate the power of us
It's the Westminster bubble's time to be crushed
